About XV Series

What is it?

XV SERIES™ is a USA based non-profit program whose goal is to develop and support amateur American rugby athletes, referees and support staff whilst providing a development pathway.

XV SERIES fosters and promotes links with USA rugby organizations and regional clubs, who have the collective goal of developing USA eligible players.

Our goal is to build a series of regional competitive matches under the XV SERIES program, which will help develop amateur players, coaches, referees, medical and management staff to succeed at the next level.

Pathway & Progression

XV SERIES seeks to provide an initial opportunity to identify players with the greatest potential, to enter the select pathway towards regional representation, the professional game and national representation with the USA Eagles.

All the above can be achieved with a visible multi-pathway model whilst keeping a wide player base. It creates challenges for high achieving players, allowing progression opportunities for later developing players and creating opportunities to bridge increasingly high numbers of player drop out. This supports player retention into senior rugby.

Opportunity & Development

XV SERIES is a pathway program that works with regional US rugby programs and Unions, providing match playing opportunities, without the limiting performance factors of playing for league position.

XV SERIES is an integrated approach to amateur player development and a pathway for youth programs, collegiate, clubs, regions and country. This will provide opportunities for a recognizable player, referee and coach development pathway, whilst still managing to retain both club and regional and professional identity.

“I’m thrilled that Seattle Rugby Club is part of the XV Series. We’re looking forward to rich opportunities for our women - players, coaches, staff, and referees - to gain high level experience in preparing for and performing in XV Series matches.”

Liz Kirk

“The California Grizzlies are excited to be a part of a national program that is designed to promote American players and coaches. We aim to provide a pathway opportunity for US eligible players and local coaches to showcase their abilities.”

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the Mission?

Our goal is to build a series of regional competitive matches under the XV SERIES program which will help develop amateur players, coaches, referees, medical and management staff to succeed at the next level.

Who should become a member of the XV SERIES?

We want to work with like minded people/organizations/clubs/regional unions who want to:

  • Develop US amateur players, coaches, referees and support staff.
  • Support the regional and national program.
  • Create ongoing opportunities through rugby.
  • Build skills for everyday life.
Do we have to commit to a set number of games?

No, some of the benefits of the XV SERIES are:

  • Member teams don’t have to commit to a full season of XV SERIES games that they can‘t afford.
  • Games will be played at locations where it makes most sense for the teams involved.
Is this another US rugby league?

No, the mission and focus of this nonprofit program is on people and player development, not a cup or winning a league:

  • The XV SERIES isn’t in competition with clubs or pro rugby. It is here to complement both and develop all those involved with rugby.
  • Players can CIPP with their home clubs and still play in these developmental games and thus increase their rugby knowledge and skills, which in turn benefits the local teams.
